Have the Garden of the Month, Every Month Make your garden the envy of all your neighbors—without an expensive overhaul! Join me, landscape designer and author Rebecca Sweet, for my FREE, online Craftsy mini–class, Transform Your Garden Design, and elevate your uninspired or chaotic garden to one that's filled with harmonious color, texture and form. Throughout this class, you'll learn how to view your garden through new eyes, whether it seems beyond repair or just in need of a few tweaks. In our first lesson, I'll give you tips for the most difficult part—knowing where to begin! We'll get started by discussing familiarity blindness, the most common creativity block. When you're working in your garden every day, it's easy to overlook areas that may need attention. I'll share three steps for moving beyond this blindness and becoming your own editor! | | Now that we have a fresh slate, we'll create harmony in our garden using one of the easiest and most effective layers: color! I'll demystify the Color Wheel, before explaining the power of simple and complex echoes in bringing continuity and order to your space. An echo is simply taking one element of a plant—in this case, color—and repeating that element throughout your garden to create depth.
Now that our colors are singing, we'll explore texture found not only in plants but in more unusual sources, as well. While often more subtle than color, texture can be one of the most unifying elements in your garden. I'll discuss simple and complex texture echoes as well as the importance of repetition and contrast. After all, without contrast, harmony can quickly turn into monotony! I'll share simple techniques to help you identify these uninspired moments in your garden as well as how you can wake them up. | | Lastly, we'll use form to add a final harmonious layer to your garden. Discover the difference between form and shape as we add year–round interest to your garden. Then, find out how to repeat distinct plant shapes or forms by hardscaping your garden for a cohesive look.
